Prime Minister Vladimir Putin sends a message of greetings to the Russian Union of Afghanistan Veterans on the occasion of its 20th anniversary

The message reads, in part:

"Over the years the Russian Union of Afghanistan Veterans has grown into a large and authoritative organisation that unites about half a million people from different regions of our country. Its dynamic and much-needed work has won widespread public recognition. It is important that the high priority issues you tackle include the medical and social rehabilitation of war veterans and their families, and targeted assistance to those veterans that are in need of this support. The Union deserves particular recognition for its significant contribution to keeping the memories of fallen soldiers alive, and to the patriotic upbringing of the younger generations."
