The Government has instituted ten Gagarin Prizes worth one million roubles each for achievements in space exploration. The awards are designed to promote space exploration and also to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the first manned space flight. Starting in 2011, the prizes will be awarded once every five years.
The resolution also approves the Statute on the Government's Gagarin Prizes in the field of space exploration.
