Prime Minister Vladimir Putin sends his condolences upon the death of stage and film star Lyudmila Gurchenko

Mr Putin's telegram to the bereaved reads, in part:

"Lyudmila Gurchenko, one of Russia's greatest actresses, has passed on.

A true star, loved by millions, she possessed a unique gift and exemplified professionalism and an enthusiasm for life. An eternally young soul, she endowed every part she played on stage, in films, on television, and in concert halls with an inimitable expressive power born of psychological insight and a profound sense of drama.

Lyudmila Gurchenko will be forever in our memory."
