Prime Minister Vladimir Putin has a telephone conversation with Finnish President Tarja Halonen

The sides discussed the current issues of bilateral cooperation in environmental protection, especially in the Baltic Sea. Prime Minister Vladimir Putin told President Tarja Halonen about the active position that Russia is taking on this issue. In particular, Putin described the federal targeted programme that Russia has adopted aimed at protecting and restoring the ecosystem of the Baltic Sea.
Putin also told Halonen about Russia's plans to implement the programme on the Russian side of the Baltic's catchment basin, which has an area of more than 300,000 sq km and includes St Petersburg, the Leningrad, Kaliningrad, Novgorod and Pskov Regions, as well as parts of the Republic of Karelia and the Vologda Region.
Putin said that Russia will continue to create the state nature reserve Ingermanlandsky, which will become part of the Fennoscandia's green belt on the territory of the adjacent state.
