Prime Minister Vladimir Putin sends a message to Russian Buddhist organisations congratulating them on the upcoming New Year based on Buddha’s enlightenment (Sagaalgan)

The message reads, in part:

In modern Russia, Buddhist organisations have various opportunities to pursue social and educational projects which are needed now. New temples are being built, and the old ones are being renovated. There are new schools and institutions to educate future priests. Buddhist festivals and rituals dating back centuries are being brought back. Representatives of Buddhist organisations are active in the discussions of the important issues raised by social institutions, national and international forums. By supporting an interfaith dialogue and developing contacts with government institutions, the Buddhist community of Russia makes a significant contribution to promoting friendship and mutual understanding between the peoples of our multinational Motherland.

Sagaalgan is a bright (white) festival, the time for new opportunities, kindness and hope.
