Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin sent a telegram of congratulations to the players and coaches of the Russian national hockey team.
The telegram said, in part: "Using your will and skill in this heated and elegant contest, you turned around the course of an extremely difficult match with a strong rival. We have been waiting for this victory for years. Millions of hockey fans from all over the country believed in our victory."
