Vladimir Putin expresses condolences on the death of poet Bella Akhmadulina

The message of condolences sent to the poet's family reads, in part:

"The death of Bella Akhmadulina is a grave and irretrievable loss for the nation's literature and for the whole of Russia. Gone is an outstanding poet endowed with a unique lyrical gift as well as civil courage and a keen sense of justice, duty and predestination. Akhmadulina's poetry and indeed her entire life were tuned to the loftiest and most perfect sound. She always gave wholly and lavishly of her talent and inspiration, the warmth of her heart and her soul.

"Bella Akhmadulina is no more with us, but her poetry will always be relevant and in demand as a work of high and real art."
