Prime Minister Vladimir Putin sends Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov a message of congratulations on Moscow’s City Day

The message, in part, reads as follows:

"This holiday is dear to all who love Moscow, are proud of its rich historical and cultural heritage and believe in the glorious future of our capital.

Diligence, hospitality, generosity - these remarkable qualities have been inherent in Muscovites since time immemorial.

But the main thing is that you're always ready to support and offer those who have fallen on hard times or who are in distress a shoulder to lean on. And today, when thousands of people have suffered because of the devastating fires in many regions of Russia, Moscow residents were among the first to come to their aid, showing genuine concern, compassion and mercy. Believe me, such support means a great deal."
