The message reads, in part:
"This forum is rightly regarded as one of the most important events in the country's life. Once again, it has convened church and government officials, leaders of religious groups, civil associations, as well as academics and cultural activists. You are truly united by your concern about Russia's future, your constructive effort to contribute to its spiritual and moral rebirth as well as to resolution of current social problems.
"The Congress unfailingly addresses the most pressing issues of the day. Its present focus is education: the role of the Russian Orthodox Church in educating the young generation, advocacy of family values and preservation of the country's cultural and spiritual heritage.
"I am confident that your discussions will be constructive, substantial and comprehensive as always, and that they will serve to promote public accord and trust in society, as well as consolidation of our multi-ethnic country."
