The message reads, in part:

"I am happy to welcome you to St Petersburg for the 10th International Likhachev Scientific Conference.

Your highly respected forum has always been known for the high calibre of its participants, substantial work and a wide range of matters put up for discussion.

I am confident that today's meeting, devoted to the dialogue of cultures and partnership of civilisations, will become another step in the development of inter-confessional and international communication, and will contribute to deepening relations among nations. It will again become a meeting place for an array of professionals with international reputations: academics, public figures, creative professionals and all those who are faithful to the views and ideas of Dmitry Likhachev".
